Former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last today, at the age of 93. He was battling age-related issues for more than two months before passing away this evening.
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi since June 11 this year. The former Prime Minister died at 5.05pm.
The death of the BJP leader left the nation in mourning.
Several Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to mourn the loss of India’s tallest leader.
Priyanka Chopra wrote, “Former Prime Minister Shri #AtalBihariVajpayee’s visionary ideas and contributions for India were truly remarkable. The nation will always remember… #RIP My thoughts and condolences to the family.” The actress is currently shooting for The Sky Is Pink in Mumbai.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was known for both his politics and poetry. The ex-Prime Minister was honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 2015.
Vajpayee served as the Prime Minister of the country three times, but could complete his full term only once. He began his career as a journalist and went on to become one of India’s most respected political leaders.
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader has inspired generations of politicians with his work.
Vajpayee’s last rites will be performed at 1.30pm tomorrow at the Smriti Sthal in Delhi.
