On what would have been the 54th birthday of industrialist and polo enthusiast Sunjay Kapur, his third wife, former actor and businesswoman Priya Sachdev Kapur, shared a deeply emotional tribute to him on social media. Her post comes at a sensitive time, as a high-profile legal battle over his reported ₹30,000 crore estate continues to make headlines.
Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, in the UK after suffering a heart attack during a polo match. He was 53.
A Spiritual Tribute: “Some Souls Don’t Depart; They Expand”
Marking his birthday on Wednesday, Priya posted a moving message quoting verses from the Bhagavad Gita:
“Whatever action a great man performs, others follow. Whatever path he walks, the world pursues.
He who lives with purpose and love never perishes, for the divine dwells in all who serve with devotion.”
In the caption, she wrote:
“You lived these words without ever needing to speak them. You led with kindness, not command. You built with courage, not pride. You gave without expecting, because giving was your nature.
Even now, your presence feels like quiet strength beside me… They say a great man’s actions guide the world, but for me, your greatest act was how you loved, selflessly and completely.”
She ended her tribute with a heartfelt line:
“Some souls don’t depart; they expand. You are everywhere, yet still right here. My Sunjay, I know you are watching over me. Happy Birthday, J.”
Family Moments Shared in Emotional Montage
Along with her message, Priya shared a montage of family moments: holidays, festivals, birthdays, polo events, and intimate celebrations. The video also featured her daughter Safira from her previous marriage to actor and hotelier Vikram Chatwal, and Sunjay’s children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, all as part of their blended family.
One of the highlights of the clip included Sunjay’s voiceover reflecting on his legacy:
“I am a father, I am a husband, a friend, a son. I’m here to protect my family and to make sure I pass on the right values to my children… and to continue to uphold the vision for growth, honesty, trust, love, and respect.”
The video concluded with Priya tearfully saying:
“My Sunjay, you taught us how to visualise and dream big. To believe in ourselves and continue self-improvement. Your vision will always be alive. You will always stay in motion.”
Inside the ₹30,000 Crore Estate Dispute
Even as Priya paid tribute, the Kapur family remains embroiled in a contentious legal battle over Sunjay’s vast estate. His children from his second marriage, Samaira (20) and Kiaan (15), have legally challenged their father’s will, calling it “forged.”
Appearing on their behalf, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani argued in court that the will unfairly disinherited Sunjay’s children from his previous marriage and sidelined his mother, Rani Kapur.
“Only Priya Kapur profits from this forged will,” Jethmalani told the court, pointing to alleged discrepancies in the language of the document, including the use of feminine pronouns to describe Sunjay.
Sunjay had previously been married twice, first to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani (no children), and then to Karisma Kapoor. They wed in 2003 and divorced in 2016 after a highly publicised separation. A year later, he married Priya Sachdev Kapur, with whom he shares a young son, Azarias.
A Legacy Remembered
While the courtroom drama continues, Priya’s post paints a different picture, of a devoted husband and father remembered through love, family, and faith.
The legal proceedings are ongoing, but on his birthday, Priya chose to focus on the man she loved.
Her message stood as both a tribute to Sunjay’s memory and, perhaps, a quiet response to those questioning his legacy.
